Chief Ayuba Burki Gufwan hails from Depuri, Panyam District, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. Living with the effects of polio since childhood, he turned his personal challenge into purpose by founding the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People’s Centre in Jos, which has provided mobility aids and support services for thousands of persons with disabilities in northern Nigeria. In August 2024, he was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), where he pledged to advance implementation of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 and empower persons with disabilities to participate fully in society. With decades of advocacy, hands-on service and community leadership, Chief Gufwan now brings his lived experience, entrepreneurial spirit, and policy insight to the national stage, working to break down barriers and build real opportunities for persons with disabilities across Nigeria.
